A career spent inside systems.
A laboratory built to study
how they change.
Mickey Maini has had four careers. A Wharton and Penn Engineering dual graduate, he started in investment banking, in senior roles at Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank. He then ran an emerging-markets conglomerate as CEO, scaling it from roughly $100 million to over $5 billion. He later served as an Adjunct Professor in the policy and technology program.
Each career was a reinvention, not a promotion. A dismantling and a rebuilding. That pattern became the research: systems under stress do not adjust little by little. They reorganize into something new.
Today he runs his family office and Solstice Laboratory, an independent research lab based in Dubai that applies physics to markets and geopolitics. It studies the moments when systems stop moving in cycles and change state. The framework is set out in his first book, The Entropy Trap, with a foreword by James Rickards.
He thinks about entropy more than is probably healthy.
